Description

The Mosky Audio D250X Mini Overdrive Preamp is a compact guitar overdrive pedal inspired by the classic DOD 250 Overdrive Preamp, offering a versatile range of tones from subtle boost and light overdrive to articulate distortion.

The D250X is designed to work particularly well with a clean amplifier channel, delivering a bright, clear, and responsive drive sound without excessive harshness or fizz. Its gain structure provides plenty of clarity at lower settings and becomes progressively more aggressive as the Gain control is increased.

Versatile Overdrive & Distortion

With the Gain control turned down, the D250X can provide a subtle touch of grit while retaining the natural character and clarity of your guitar. Increasing the Gain produces a thicker, more saturated distortion sound suitable for rhythm playing and lead work.

The Level control can be used to compensate for volume changes or provide a substantial clean boost. With low Gain and increased Level, the pedal works effectively as an always-on boost or solo volume boost, helping your guitar cut through a dense band mix.

A two-position D/M mode selector provides two distinct drive characters, giving the pedal additional tonal flexibility.

Worth it

Others weren’t kidding about the limited range of the gain knob! It’s essential a 3-way switch where 1-9 is a low gain volume boost, 9-9.5 is dirty, and 9.5-10 is crunchy as hell.
The volume difference between D and M modes is just enough so that you can’t switch between the two and leave the rest of your set up unchanged, which is kind of a pain. But they do give distinct enough tones that it’s a nice feature to have the option.
But all that being said, still worth the money imo to experiment with a 250 style pedal before taking the plunge on the real thing.
I like not having a tone knob, keeps it nice and straight forward. I guess I don’t mind the limited gain knob range for the same reason.
I’m playing my Harley Benton te-62 into a Monoprice 15 watt tube amp. Towards the end of the video I hit the d250x with the caline Santa Clara for a little more oomph.

Good sounding MXR Distortion plus and DOD 250 clone.

Sounds really good.

Versatile, cheap and sounds great

I’ve never used either of the DOD and MXR originals this pedals is based on but I have used boutique knockoffs that cost five times what this one does. I’ll take this one any day for the cheap price, good sounds and choice of both the 250 and Distortion+ circuits.

I mostly use the DOD side of the toggle switch, mostly combining it with some level of amp distortion to get anything from light backup to grinding, heavy distortion. Level is typically dimed and gain is anywhere from zero to 3 o’clock. I also frequently stack this setting with other drives: BD-2, HM-2 or various fuzzes.

The M setting I find a little less useful, but it can crank out a fuzzy kind of distortion (somewhat quieter than the D setting.)

The only potential drawback is the jacks (ant least in my dsmole—output doesn’t seem to grab onto the cable hardware, so it can pop out if bumped.

Outstanding

For a cheap mini pedal, this thing sounds outstanding. First you have the tight overdrive setting which has good bite and crunch and then the distortion setting which is a more saturated creamy distortion. The only reason I gave it four stars is that the gain pot does nothing until the last fourth, so it's an all or nothing pedal. I wasn't happy with the Mosky Plexi pedal but they have redeemed themselves with this one !

THE GOAT

This is the ultimate sleeper cheap pedal. and MXR and DOD distortion in one pedal w really faithful circuitry.

This is on my board next to JHS, JRAD, STRYMON, and a bunch of other boutique-y stuff!
