Description

The Fulltone OCD V2 Obsessive Compulsive Drive is a highly responsive overdrive pedal designed to deliver dynamic, touch-sensitive guitar tones ranging from transparent low-gain drive to powerful, saturated distortion. Originally introduced in 2004, the OCD became known for its distinctive response, natural dynamics, and ability to interact exceptionally well with both single-coil and humbucking pickups.

The V2 incorporates several important circuit improvements while retaining the characteristic OCD tone and feel. Its updated input stage, output buffer, and selectable bypass modes provide greater dynamics, improved sustain, and more consistent performance in complex pedalboard signal chains.

Touch-Sensitive MOSFET Overdrive

The OCD was among the first overdrive pedals to use MOSFETs as clipping devices, contributing to its distinctive dynamic response. The circuit reacts naturally to picking intensity, producing more gain and saturation when played aggressively while cleaning up when the strings are played softly.

This makes the OCD particularly effective for players who use their picking dynamics and guitar volume control as an integral part of their sound.

Class-A JFET Input Stage

The V2 features a Class-A configured 2N5457 JFET input section, increasing the input impedance to 1 MΩ. This improves the pedal's interaction with different pickups and provides greater sensitivity and dynamic range with both single-coil and humbucking guitars.

Enhanced Bypass & True Bypass

An internal switch allows you to choose between True Bypass and Fulltone's Enhanced Bypass™ modes.

Enhanced Bypass uses Class-A configured switching FETs to help preserve the dynamics and tonal response of the guitar signal throughout a complex pedalboard. The output buffer also reduces loading on the OCD's clipping stage, contributing to improved sustain and preservation of overtones.

In Enhanced Bypass mode, the OCD can remain an active part of the signal chain even when the overdrive itself is disengaged, helping maintain a responsive and consistent feel across long cable runs and multiple pedals.

OCD V2 Version Information

Fulltone has made a number of small circuit revisions to the OCD over its production history. The later units with serial numbers 205811 and higher incorporate the less-compressed circuit commonly referred to by players as the OCD V2.01.
