Originally, I was playing a tube screamer into my catalinbread dirty little secret as a cleanish volume/gain boost, but decided to try something different. I picked this pedal up for a super low price and gave it a try:
At first, I was sort of happy, but underwhelmed. It added a similar boost to my tubescreamer, but there was this added muddiness I didn't like. Single note lines sounded fine, but chords and palm muting sounded really dull. I tweaked my eq settings on the DLS and my amp to fix it, but it didn't work. I even reversed the position with the DLS going into the booster and somehow that made the problem even worse.
I was ready to give up, but did some research and found that like the original EP booster, the Mosky one has internal DIP switches; one for a gain boost I believe and the other a bright switch. I turned them both on, hooked it up, and there it was. It had a little extra volume and the muddiness was gone. Perfectly brilliant and clean boost and added plenty of sustain and harmonics. I'll probably wind up getting the real thing eventually, but this thing is fantastic on its own.
